How to Configure a POP3 E-mail Client


The following are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail:


Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com


Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com


Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail name (your address without the "@yahoo.com")


E-mail address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (i.e. user@yahoo.com)


Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password





How to Add a New E-mail Account to Your Existing Profile


1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.


2. Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.


3. Click the Add button.


4. Click POP3, and then click Next.


5. Enter your e-mail account information.


6. In the Your Name box, type your name as you would like it to appear.


7. In the E-mail Address box, type your Yahoo! e-mail address, for example, user@yahoo.com.


8. In the Incoming mail server (POP3) box, type pop.mail.yahoo.com.


9. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type smtp.mail.yahoo.com.


10. In the User Name box, verify that everything before the at symbol (@) symbol of your Yahoo! e-mail address is displayed.


11. Enter your Yahoo! password.


IMPORTANT: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication. To turn this setting on, follow these steps: 1. From the Tools menu, click Accounts.


2. Click the Mail tab.


3. Click your Yahoo! Mail account, and then click Properties.


4. Click Servers.


5. Click to select the My Server Requires Authentication check box, and then click OK.





How to Control Deletion of Messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server





1. In the properties of the Internet E-mail settings, click the More Settions button.


2. Click the Advanced tab.


3. Click to select the Leave a copy of messages on the server check box if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them, do not check select this option.


4. Click OK.


5. Click Next.


6. Click Finish.
